Our Uniform and The Black Watch

Our band has no formal or informal connection to:

The Black Watch Regiment of the Army of the UK http://www.army.mod.uk/blackwatch/

or to:

The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada  http://www.blackwatchcanada.com/en/index.htm

Pipe bands wear traditional highland outfits.  "Civilian-style" bands use the kilt and other parts of civilian highland wear.  Civilian "military-style" pipe bands use outfits that resemble military uniforms.  Some of these "military style" pipe bands use combinations of military apparel from different regiments, while other bands adhere more closely to the actual uniform of one of the regimental pipe bands.

The uniform of the Black Watch pipe band is impressive and an outstanding example of historic military appearance.  We are not Black Watch "wannabees" (about half of our band is serving or has already served in the armed forces of the United States).  We pay our full respects to the Black Watch by being outfitted in a similar manner to their pipe band, proving the adage that "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."  Composed as we are of women and men, girls and boys, we will not be confused with that proud and professional military unit of the UK, "1st Battalion The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment)."  We are honored to do our best to display that uniform appearance.

We suggest that you visit the website of the museum of the Black Watch at Balhousie Castle in Scotland:
